Lisa Ann Wright

Who I Am: I'm a singer/songwriter and guitarist, now once again, can say I am from upstate NY.  I was born on a farm and grew up with the songs sung by folks my parents loved, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams. I also grew up listening to the songs of the 70s, so I learned an appreciation for the Beatles, Janice Joplin, Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, and Carole King. Guitar players like Joni Mitchell and James Taylor were idols. And the country pickin' of Chet Atkins, Glenn Campbell and Roy Clark made a big impression on me. The folkies like Peter Seeger, Tom Paxton, and Peter, Paul and Mary are there as big influences, too. As one of the youngest in my family, I got to listen to everyone's favorite music, and I have to say I think I liked all of it--- and college introduced me to punk and new wave, and yet I performed in I musical theatre and light opera. I like old time and contradance music, jazz standards, singer-songwriter, folk, rock, world and indie music and I perform and record in these styles. There's no genre I am allergic to.

What I'm currently groovin' on: I like Beck a lot, Natalia Lafourcade, Andrew Duhone, Lana Delray, Kendrick Lamar ...I'm always looking at what's new and finding space to keep the good old stuff, too. I have recorded one full album and many singles and an EP with my duo the "Snarky Sisterz." My debut album Sweet Bye & Bye was listed in Sing Out! magazine and I cherish that review! It was a WAMMIE award-winning album of eclectic songs, and was reviewed by Michael Tearson in Sing Out! : "This is a very classy album."

"Here I Am":  is my sophomore effort, reflecting a bit less country and rock, and a more acoustic-folk orientation where my guitar playing takes a prominent role. "My Daily Bread" is the second cut on my new EP. It is a finalist in the 2018 Peace Song Awards and was awarded a Silver Medal in the Global Music Awards. Also, this song was a finalist and was added to RAWA's Songs of Social Change Compilation CD.

Notable other songs I've written: I Paid Up and I Know You received Honorable Mentions award in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. It's been a good couple of years for my songwriting, and as I keep making music I hope to reach a wider audience. This year, "The Kids Ain't Alright" was listed for several months in 2018 as one of the top 100 songs plan the US/Canada on College/Indie stations by Airplaytoday.com. I play solo performances and I'm also currently performing on the East coast in a duo with Diana Quinn as the Snarky Sisterz. I've played in several bands in DC and New York including Uncle Joe and the Rosebud Ramblers and Lisa and the Tomcats. I am a former singer with the DC-based band The Fabulettes.

Great Falls Balloon Festival, Lewiston, Maine

Established in 1992 by a group of business people, civic leaders, and friends, the Great Falls Balloon Festival is a weekend-long celebration featuring hot air balloons, food, and entertainment.

With the support of local businesses, an army of volunteers and the cooperative efforts of the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, the festival has gained a national reputation as a first-class event and is a destination for many visitors to the state of Maine.

Based at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston—with additional entertainment and food offerings at Festival Plaza in Auburn—the festival attracts approximately 100,000 visitors throughout the weekend. The Androscoggin River and rocky Great Falls provide a picturesque setting for the dozens of balloons that visit each year, including some special shape balloons. With free admission, hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by participating non-profits and economic impact in excess of $2,000,000, it’s easy to see why our community eagerly anticipates the festival each year.

Balloon launches are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting. When the balloons aren’t overhead, there is still plenty to do: dozens of food booths offer everything from lime rickeys to taco salad, pancake breakfast follows the morning launches, craft and trade booths invite browsing, a children’s area with games, a bounce house, and face painting and live entertainment on two stages. Carnival rides, a parade, and various demonstrations and contests round out the weekend’s events.
